PPP/C Nominations Lists –
National Top Up & Region Lists
2006 General Elections under the theme “A Brighter Future For All”

The People’s Progressive Party/Civic slate for the 2006 General Elections is certainly reflective of its campaign theme ‘A Brighter Future For All’ and the party’s tradition of being a genuine mass-based multi-ethnic party in Guyana.

The nomination list submitted to the Guyana Elections Commission on July 26 not only meet constitutional requirements but clearly illustrates the Party’s reach, and efforts to truly represent every group and attracting the best and brightest Guyanese.

Gender

Foremost, the National Top Up List satisfy the criterion of having one third of its candidates as female, while the ratio for female on the Regional Geographical List even exceeds this mark for several regions. Among them being Regions Seven and Nine. The number of female nominees in Region Two is equal to the male candidates.

Skills

A striking aspect of the 2006 nomination lists is the number of professionals named. This, by far exceeds previous elections. Additionally, many of the politicians are trained professionals. This list clearly demonstrates the PPP/C desire to be inclusive and to involve all sectors of the Guyanese population in the exciting development process triggered by the PPP/C Government. On the lists include workers, farmers, doctors, lawyers, accountants, business administrators, politicians, religious ministers, Pubic Servants, educators, IT entrepreneur, geologists, journalists and many from the civic sector of society.

Youth

Continuing its strong emphasis on youth, the Party would be contesting with a significant representation of young people on its national list. The younger candidates are significantly reflected in the nominations from Regions Five, Six, Eight and Nine, while the 36-55 years age bracket is evidence in all Ten Administrative Regions. The lists clear show an encouraging mix of youthful and experienced candidates.

Ethnicity

Admittedly, the Party’s enjoys support across the ethnic spectrum. The lists are truly representative of the ethnic make up of the country. This is particularly evident on the Regional Lists.

Residency

All candidates on the lists are citizens who actually live and serve the country not only at Elections time, but even before, which is not the same for many political opponents contesting the Elections.

Guyana can be assured that the lists of candidates fielded by the PPP/C are superior in terms of Guyanese representing all strata of life and who are committed to ensuring a brighter future for all for the next five years and certainly beyond.

The Presidential Candidate is His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo and Prime Ministerial Candidate is Mr. Samuel Hinds.

The representative of the lists is Mr. Donald Ramotar, PPP General Secretary and Deputy Representative is His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo.

The PPP/C’s Election Agent is Mr. Ganga Persaud.

The symbol of the PPP/C is the Cup.

July 26.
