Mr. Jagdeo outlined some of the Party’s work during its terms in office, disclosing that his Party will not be contesting the elections by attempting to besmirch the characters of candidates of other parties but will simply place major focus on the party’s work over the years as evidence of what it has done for the country and its dedicated service to the people of Guyana. He noted that when the Party took office, it faced a major challenge of having to transform a country left with a huge debt burden about seven and a half times the size of the economy. “We did not inherit heaven….now our debt is about 85 % of our economy”, he said emphasizing that while in Government, the party worked very hard to try to get rid of the burden by at first paying almost 94 cents of every dollar earned in the country. Mr. Baksh noted that much development has taken place and is continuing in the Region under the PPP/C including the modern hospital under construction at Supenaam while he pointed to the Party’s consistent focus on improving the lives of indigenous people. He said too that the Region is lobbying to have a branch of the Guyana School of Agriculture established there since the Region is an agricultural one.
