DESTRUCTIVE ELEMENTS ARE PULLING DOWN PPP/C POSTERS
Contrary to the need for an elections campaign of civility, destructive elements are pulling down posters of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) from lantern polls, in certain areas. Over the last two weeks posters teams have had to re-paste posters where they have been removed. In many instances teams working for the PPP/C reported that posters of the PNCR1G have been pasted over those belonging to the PPP/C. This level of provocation is designed to prompt a confrontation.
This development deserves the attention of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), International and Local Observers, and other bodies interested in civility during the current elections campaign.
Parties contesting the elections must be allowed to campaign freely and fairly in an environment of peace and tolerance and the PPP/C is the best example of allowing and encourage this atmosphere. The party will not be deterred or threatened by this uncivilised act as our experience and strength provide the guidance for us to move forward resolutely despite such challenges. The PPP/C will continue to act in a respectful and responsible manner at all times during the campaign.
