Kuru Kururu residents brave heavy rain to listen to PPP/C Presidential Candidate
- meetings at Grove, Herstelling attract large crowds

Despite heavy rain at Kuru Kururu on the Linden/Soesdyke Highway, Region Four, residents yesterday braved the weather and remained at the meeting site to faithfully listen to Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party Civic Bharrat Jagdeo as he delivered his address to the gathering.

Mr. Jagdeo told the crowd that the Opposition Parties, especially the main Opposition, People’s National Congress Reform-One Guyana Party have resorted to “lies and rumours” to win the support of especially Amerindians, whom the Party neglected in the past years.

“They’re spreading lies and rumours. In the interior they’re telling the people that we want to steal their land, our Amerindian Brothers and Sisters and that we don’t believe in God. They’re resorting to lies because they can’t handle our programmes and our policies,” he stated.

He noted however, that Amerindians and other Guyanese, including those at Kuru Kururu could no longer be fooled and bullied as in previous years.

In this light, he reminded residents about previous Elections Campaigns by his Party to the community when his Party members were pelted and meetings could not be continued.

“Comrades, this is a different time, our country is changing…and our Party is one of unity that brings people together and the only Party that can bring people together is the PPP/C,” he added noting that his Party caters for all Guyanese despite their religion and race.

The PPP/C Presidential Candidate told residents of Kuru Kururu that it is important that they ensure that they support his Party so that Region Four could be won over from the PNC/R and development of areas in the Region could be accelerated since in many instances money allocated for projects in Region Four areas is sent back. This usually results in many projects then having to be implemented by Central Government, he added.

PPP/C Candidates, Pauline Sukhai, Steve Ninvalle and Dr. Bheri Ramsarran also addressed the gathering as they explained the additional ways in which communities will benefit should the Party be returned to Office.

Ramsarran told residents that one of the twenty Cuban Doctors who arrived in the country recently, has been stationed to work in their community, as he encouraged them to visit the area’s health centre.

Following this, Ninvalle also explained about Government’s plans to further assist the sports fraternity, to add to the assistance already being given to sporting activities such as cricket and football.

He noted too that plans are in train to equip 25,000 youths with various entrepreneurial skills.

Meanwhile, the Presidential Candidate drove through the new Diamond/Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara where thousands of residents have already constructed large houses prior to visiting Grove and Herstelling where hundreds of supporters awaited his arrival, welcoming him and his team in much pomp and ceremony.
