PPP-C confident of victory

PPP-C Candidate Donald Ramotar this evening said that his Party is very confident that it will win the 2006 Elections.

Ramotar and his colleague PPP-C Candidate, Robert Persaud, were speaking during a media briefing at the PPP-C media centre, Freedom House, Robb Street, Georgetown.

Asked about his assessment of the voting response by Guyanese, Ramotar said that so far his Party has not got a total picture yet and it is still too early for such an assessment.

He noted that polling seemed to be mixed in some areas with a good turnout of persons in specific locations and a mixed response in others.

Ramotar stated though that his Party is confident that it will win the Elections.

Congratulating the media on their coverage of the Elections so far, Mr. Ramotar said that coverage has been mostly objective except for one report carried on Prime News that could spur things up.

He also pointed to a statement made by a media personnel on a television programme aired last evening which said that the contract for the construction of the new Linden Hospital Complex was first granted to an Afro-Guyanese but an Indo-Guyanese was then given the contract.

Ramotar said that when the details of the issue was checked, it was found that only two contractors bid for the contracts, none of which were Afro-Guyanese, therefore Ramotar concluded that the statement was erroneous.

Ramotar also addressed other minor Elections Day hiccups and queries by the media.
