PPP/C Public meetings at Enterprise, Lusignan attract large gatherings:
Presidential Candidate urges voters to come out in numbers on Elections Day
Hundreds of residents from Enterprise and Lusignan turned out last evening at two public meetings addressed by Presidential Candidate of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic Mr. Bharrat Jagdeo as the party continued its Elections Campaign countrywide for the 2006 General and Regional Elections to be held on August 28.

At Enterprise, Mr. Jagdeo said:“We have come through a long struggle, so electricity problems will not stop me,” the President said.
He urged voters to come out in large numbers on Elections Day and not to be fearful, since his party is confident that it will again win the Elections. He however, noted that this can only be guaranteed if supporters ensure that they continue supporting the party by turning up at the polling stations and returning the party to office on Elections Day.
He urged all residents, especially men to also ensure that they do not consume alcohol on that day so as to behave accordingly and to be in the right frame of mind when exercising their franchise.
The President said that for those who reside on the East Coast Demerara, most of their lives have been a tragedy with them always living under PNC rule.

“Region Four has always been controlled by the People’s National Congress. Many other Regions are controlled by the PPP/C and in those Regions we have greater control, people know who the Regional Chairmen are, the Regional Chairmen are directed by the party and the government to go out and work among the people. I ask you in Enterprise, how many times have you seen the Regional Chairman for this region in the last several years that we’ve been in office? I’m sure that most of you do not know who he is.”
On this note, Mr. Jagdeo asked voters to ensure that they return the governing party to office and to make sure that Region Four is taken from under the main Opposition Party so it can be furthered developed.
“All the progress made in this region has come directly through Central Government intervention,” he reiterated.
He added that most of the development projects in PPP/C support areas in Region Four had to be initiated by Central Government since whenever the region submits its yearly budget programmes, it usually bypassed those areas.

At Lusignan, Mr. Jagdeo received resounding applause and a joyous welcome when he arrived in the area with PPP/C supporters exhibiting a larger banner with the name of the party and the President as leader as their choice.
There, the President told the gathering about how better-off the country is now with its debt burden largely reduced. He stated that though people travel around Guyana and see tangible evidence of progress with new streets and buildings, many Guyanese do not notice the fact that the country’s debt-relief has been reduced significantly and the importance of such an achievement.
He contended that if not for anything else, his party deserves to be returned to Office for this great achievement as it struggled to reduce the debt-burden left by the former PNC administration while at the same time making major efforts to develop the country.

He told residents that all his party can promise them is to work harder and to ensure that better health, education and other services continue to be provided for them.
PPP/C candidate Mr. Navin Chanderpal, who also addressed residents said, “60,000 people are now with electricity for the first time in their lives. Comrades, this is what you’re being asked to consider on August 28. Do you want this development to continue or do you want to go back to the time when everything was breaking up under the PNC?” Mr. Chanderpal said.

Chanderpal said that new parties have been emerging to fool masses of Guyanese, with one specific group calling itself the third force and including one leader who had to be expelled from the PPP/C since he was against it at a very critical time when the party had to be confronting ‘crime and the criminals’.
“Because of his indiscipline, he had to be expelled from the PPP,” Chanderpal reiterated.
Chanderpal also urged voters to ensure they return the party to Office so that development of the country could continue.
