PPP/C predicts greater majority win at polls

The Peoples Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) is upbeat about its chances of pulling off a victory at the 2006 Polls with a greater majority than the 2001 Elections.

Responding to what he termed reckless and malicious journalism by some sections of the media, Prime Ministerial Candidate of the PPP/C Samuel Hinds said “the PPP will not be distracted as it mobilises the Guyanese people for another victory with a greater majority”.

He alluded to the two successful rallies that the party held in Kitty, Georgetown and Linden. These massive rallies he said is indicative of the growing strength of and support for the PPP/C.

He lashed out at the Stabroek News for an article published stating that only 300 persons supported the PPP/C in Linden and describing the Peoples National Congress Reform – One Guyana’s (PNCR – 1G’s) turn out as ‘a large crowd’.

Despite threats and provocation, he said the PNCR – 1G could not prevent more than over 3000 persons supporting the PPP/C at the rally held in Linden.

Hinds said the Stabroek News in an article published today is merely repeating the lies of the PNCR –1G. This is a continuation of its pavement journalism demonstrated in an earlier article written on July 27 alleging that the PPP/C paid supporters $3000. The Independent Media Monitoring Unit (IMMU) referred to this article as unsubstantiated. Stabroek News is yet to apologise to the PPP/C or retract the article he noted.

The PNCR – 1G and its allies in the Media are worried about the growing support for the PPP/C in all communities, including those that were considered PNC strongholds, according to Hinds.
