“Our track record allows us to enter any community with confidence” - Prime Minister
The People’s Progressive Party Civic’s (PPP/C) Prime Ministerial Candidate Samuel Hinds today said his party has created a legacy which allows it to visit any community during its quest for re-election to government.
He was at the time addressing residents gathered for a political rally in Wakenaam, Region Three during a rally held earlier today.
Prime Minister Hinds who was at the time deputising for President Bharrat Jagdeo said “our performance over the last 14 years is good enough for us go to every community and be assured of another victory.”
He said unlike some Parties, the PPP/C’s Government has focused on the development of social services in all communities whether they are considered to be Party strongholds or not.
“During our tenure we focused on improving education, we focused on improving infrastructure and enhancing health care delivery through the supply of school books as well as an increased number of teachers.
He noted that a prime focus of the administration has always been the delivery of universal secondary education.
“When we entered government in 1992 only about 35 percent of primary school students could access secondary education…today it is approximately 80 percent and we are working towards 100 percent,” he assured.
Prime Minister Hinds said a number of other sectors were significantly transformed during the tenure of the PPP/C.
He noted that the provision of housing has tremendously been enhanced both in scale as well as quality.
He added that “during my term as Prime Minister, I have had the privilege of assisting in the transformation of over 220 communities through the Un-served Areas Electrification Programme.
He noted that this programme has to date benefited more than 30,000 persons in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6.
The Prime Minister said based on the performance of his Party it is unreservedly assured of another magnanimous victory.
